At Tamarisk, our volunteers are at the heart of our mission. Each person who joins us brings compassion, presence, and a desire to walk alongside individuals and families facing life-limiting illness. We’re honored to introduce some of the newest members of our volunteer community and share what inspires them to serve.
“Having served as a Stephen Minister in the past, I recognize how important it is for people to have someone to talk to as they journey through difficult times. Sometimes it is easier to share fears and concerns with someone outside the family.
I had the opportunity to be that person for my two oldest sisters as they faced cancer treatments and, eventually, death. My presence was a blessing not only for my sisters, but also for their adult children, who needed someone to listen and support them as they faced the loss of their moms.
Tamarisk feels like the next ministry God is calling me to serve in. To have the opportunity to be a trusted companion for an individual and their loved ones, guided by the love and compassion of Christ, is an honor and a blessing. I am looking forward to serving as a Tamarisk companion."
"I decided to become a Tamarisk volunteer because I felt it would be a good fit with my nursing background. I believe caring for caregivers is very important, and this is a meaningful way for me to be useful and give back in retirement."
